It has been widely rumoured that Mashrafe bin Mortaza will bring an end to his celebrated international career after Bangladesh’s campaign in the World Cup at the UK, scheduled to begin in May next year

Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza might be playing his last ODI in Dhaka when the host take on the West Indies during the second and penultimate match at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Tuesday.

At the same time, the veteran right-arm pacer will reach the record of captaining the most number of ODIs for Bangladesh, level with Habibul Bashar on 69.

It has been widely rumoured that Mashrafe will bring an end to his celebrated international career after Bangladesh’s campaign in the World Cup at the UK, scheduled to begin in May next year.

The rumour became even stronger after the 35-year old declared his participation for the upcoming 11th General Election on behalf of the ruling party, Bangladesh Awami League.

However, there was no formal announcement made of Mashrafe playing his last game in Dhaka, but the discussion is doing the rounds in the national dressing room and among the Bangladesh cricket fraternity.

Among Mashrafe’s 200 ODIs, he has played 63 matches in Mirpur.

He is the second-highest wicket-taker in this ground with 93 scalps, just after Shakib al Hasan, who has fetched 113.

In T20Is Mashrafe has played 15 matches in Mirpur, and picked up nine wickets.

During his short Test career, he played only four matches in Mirpur, and has bagged seven wickets.

In terms of wins and win percentages, Mashrafe is unparalleled, superseding all other Bangladesh captains.

He has led Bangladesh to 39 wins in 68 matches to achieve a formidable 59.09% winning rate.

But his captaincy record in ODIs in Mirpur is superlative as he led the side to 20 wins out of 26 occasions as captain with a phenomenal 77.92% success rate.

Bashar bagged 29 wins in his 69 matches as captain between 2004-2007.

Bangladesh have garnered 23 wins in 50 ODIs under Shakib and 11 victories in 37 ODIs under Mushfiqur Rahim.
