Powell and Hope produced a 163-run stand for the second wicket to recover from the early loss of a wicket
Top-order batsmen Shai Hope and Kieran Powell registered half-centuries as the visiting West Indies team posted 303 runs for the loss of six wickets at stumps on day one in the two-day warm-up game against BCB XI.
The West Indians batted first in Chittagong’s MA Aziz Stadium yesterday.
Led by pacer Rubel Hossain, BCB XI made an early impact in the game as right-arm seamer Shafiul Islam removed opener Kraigg Brathwaite for six to leave the visitor reeling on 11 for one in the seventh over.
However, Powell and Hope produced a 163-run stand for the second wicket to recover from the early loss of a wicket.
BCB XI’s left-arm spinner Fazle Mahmud Rabbi finally dismissed Powell for 72 to break the top-order stand.
Hope then retired hurt, top-scoring with 88.
The 17-year old off-spinner Nayeem Hasan perhaps made the most damage for the local side with two scalps – first removing Sunil Ambris for 17 and then bagging the wicket of Shimron Hetmyer for 24.
The Chittagong lad bowled 26 overs and conceded 104 runs.
Raymon Reifer and Keemo Paul were unbeaten on 14 and 18 respectively before the match officials removed the bails to call it a day.
The West Indians, on the second and the final day of the tour game, will look to put some early runs on the board and allow their bowlers to get a taste of the match conditions at the port city.
Host Bangladesh will lock horns in the first of the two-match Test series against the West Indies Thursday in Chittagong’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Cricket Stadium.
The second and final Test will be played at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka, starting November 30.
