Bangladesh Test captain Shakib al Hasan started his batting practice at the indoor practice facilities in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla national cricket stadium on Wednesday as part of the process of rehabilitation from his injury.

Shakib took part in a light knocking session and catching practice on Tuesday. The left-hander had batted for the first time in the nets against spin bowling.

Shakib also went to the Tigers’ dressing room to encourage his teammates, who were playing against Zimbabwe in the second Test under the leadership of Mahmudullah.

Later, Shakib went to bat with spin coach Sunil Joshi.

“I have just started my batting facing spin bowling. As a first day, I think it went quite well. I did not feel that much pain. Once I start to bat against pace bowling and start to bat for longer periods, then only I can understand the actual condition of my recovery,” said Shakib to media at Mirpur on Wednesday.

“May be I will start fielding and bowling from tomorrow. It will take time; it’s impossible to start everything at once. If I feel better in the next few days after practice sessions, then the possibility of playing against the West Indies will be considered. It should not be hurried. So it will take few days to take these decisions,” he added.
