Zimbabwe pacer Kyle Jarvis said sensible batting by Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim under tough conditions has put Bangladesh on top.

Host Bangladesh going to bat first in the second and final Test of the series at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Sunday suffered a mini collapse.

Jarvis removed Imrul Kayes and Liton Das while seamer Tendai Chatara dismissed debutant Mohammad Mithun, making use of the early conditions.

But the innings was revived by a record stand between Mominul and Mushfiq and their respective tons.

“I thought (Sunday) morning there was a bit of moisture. It was conducive (for) seam bowling this morning. Credits got to go to Mominul and Mushfiq. They battled through a really tough time out there, and they batted really well and really sensibly. Credit must go to them, because it could easily have been five or six wickets down early,” said Jarvis during the post-day press conference.

“That little session for us (at the start) wasn’t good enough. We won the first hour, and then they won the rest of the day up until that last hour. We work in hours to help explain it. They won the majority of the day except for the first hour and maybe the last,” the right-arm pacer added.

Mushfiq played the role of the anchor while Mominul took on the opposition bowlers as the duo produced 266 runs, the highest fourth wicket partnership for Bangladesh.

In the process Mominul reached his seventh Test ton before getting dismissed for 161.

Mushfiq registered his sixth hundred in the format, and was unbeaten on 111 with Bangladesh batting on 303 for the loss of five wickets.

“There was still a bit in it for the seamers all day. They (Mushfiq and Mominul) batted really well, and for about three hours there we didn’t bowl well at all. We gave them some scoring opportunities on a wicket where we shouldn’t have gone for many runs,” said Jarvis, who picked up three wickets for Zimbabwe on the day, conceding 48 runs in 19 overs.
