In 20 matches Taijul has bagged 80 wickets
Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam’s record 11-wicket haul pulled back Bangladesh in the game against Zimbabwe at the Sylhet International Stadium. After scoring a paltry 143 runs in the first innings, Bangladesh were on the back-foot when they walked into the field on day three.
But Taijul, along with the other spinners, ensured the opposition total did not go beyond reach. Taijul, who picked six wickets in the first innings, picked five in the second to meet Bangladesh’s aim and emerged as the highest wicket taker for Bangladesh since the time he came onto the fold, in 2014.
In 20 matches Taijul has bagged 80 wickets. His 11 scalps against Zimbabwe has given him the third-best match bowling figures for a Bangladesh player in Tests, behind Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Enamul Haque jnr and above Shakib Al Hasan. Taijul is now the forth Bangladesh bowler to pick 10 wickets in a Test match.
