Khulna's Tushar Imran raises his bat after scoring his 31st first-class hundred, during day four of their National Cricket League third round match against Rangpur in Khulna Thursday

Tushar Imran is the leading Bangladeshi run-scorer in first-class cricket, ahead of Alok Kapali (8,692), Rajin Saleh (8,292), Farhad Hossain (7,665) and Naeem Islam (7,644)

Bangladesh team’s chief selector Minhajul Abedin has informed to the media Friday at BKSP that he is aware of the recent good batting form shown by Tushar Imran during the National Cricket League.

But he also explained that a lot will have to be taken into account as there are many variables before the team is selected, such as conditions and the level of cricket, along with performances during different match scenarios and how that would translate into international cricket.

“We have to take into account the number of centuries and double centuries that have happened in the NCL so far. It is also to keep in mind the standard of cricket along with the conditions of the wicket so far along with the amount of runs players are scoring in the first innings along with the second innings. The potential of the players in the international stage will also need to be thought about. We have to think of all these things when setting up the national team,” the chief selector said.

Tushar is the first and only Bangladeshi to join the 11,000-run mark in first-class cricket. He now has 11,021 runs in 275 innings, including a highest score of 220, and average of 44.08. He has 31 centuries.

He is the leading Bangladeshi run-scorer in first-class cricket, ahead of Alok Kapali (8,692), Rajin Saleh (8,292), Farhad Hossain (7,665) and Naeem Islam (7,644).

Among his first-class runs, Tushar scored 89 runs for Bangladesh, 1,963 for Bangladesh A team, 2,155 for South Zone, 6,689 for Khulna and 125 for other teams.

The former Bangladesh captain, Minhajul also explained that, while Tushar has been consistent and has impressive stats, there have been others such as Liton Das and Ariful Haque who have scored more attention grabbing double centuries.

But the selectors will have the team announced after the first ODI against Zimbabwe, so right now, that is the bigger priority.

“So keeping that in mind, Tushar has performed, but there have also been double centuries from others as well. We will take everything into account. Let the first ODI end. We will announce the Test squad after that and in due time you will all know,” Minhajul added.
