The first day of the games between Barisal and Rajshahi and between Dhaka and Sylhet got abandoned due to a wet outfield.

Four half centuries were registered on day one of the third round of the National Cricket League on Monday. Dhaka Metropolis batsman Shamsur Rahman and Zabid Hossain and Khulna division top order batters Anamul Haque and Soumya Sarkar registered fifties in the respective matches. However, the first day of the game between Barisal and Rajshahi and between Dhaka and Sylhet got abandoned due to a wet outfield.

Khulna v Rangpur

Soumya Sarkar and Anamul Haque recorded half centuries to aid Khulna to 272 for seven at stumps on day one against Rangpur at Khulna’s Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium. Rangpur left-arm pacer Sajedul Islam bagged four wickets.

Khulna were sent to bat first after losing the toss and lost opener Robiul Islam Robi to Sajedul on 12 runs and the side were 23 for 1. Soumya and Anamul steadied the board with a 111-run stand for the second-wicket before Anamul departed scoring 56, his 24th first-class half-century. Soumya perished scoring 76 with eight boundaries and one over-boundary. At stumps, Ziaur Rahman was unbeaten on 33 along with Khulna captain Abdur Razzak.

Dhaka Metro v Chittagong

Wicket-keeper batsman Zabid Hossain’s unbeaten 79 along with Shamsur Rahman’s 50 (retired hurt) helped Dhaka overcome a poor show from the top order batsmen and post 266 runs at a loss of six wickets at end of the day’s play against Chittagong.

Chittagong, after winning the toss, opted to field first and made the first strike removing Dhaka Metro opener Mohammad Naim in the 11th over of the day. Chittagong ensured they stayed in the game by taking Dhaka wickets at regular intervals before Sharifullah and Zabid counter-attack to the biggest partnership of the day. The duo posted 74 runs stand for the sixth-wicket. Sharuifullah was removed by Shakhawat Hossain on 45. Zabid remained unbeaten with Taskin Ahmed on 21 runs.

Left-arm spinner Shakhawat and right-arm pacer Hasan Mahmud picked two wickets each.
