Ariful Haque, who was part of Bangladesh’s Asia Cup contingent but did not get a game, scored 231 off 325 balls hitting 21 fours and four sixes batting at No 6 to help his side Rangpur post 502 runs in Bogra’s Shaheed Chandu Stadium

The second day of the first round matches of National Cricket League saw batsman making a run feast as Ariful Haque blasted a double century and two others scored tons at different venues Tuesday.

Ariful, who was part of Bangladesh’s Asia Cup contingent but did not get a game, scored 231 off 325 balls hitting 21 fours and four sixes batting at No 6 to help his side Rangpur post 502 runs in Bogra’s Shaheed Chandu Stadium.

Ariful resumed on 117 with Rangpur 300/5 but the batsman showed his temperament to make his innings bigger.

He got good support from Dhiman Ghosh (28) and Sohrawardi Shuvo (45) in his endeavour before getting out as the ninth batsman, leaving his side on exactly 500.

In reply, Barisal finished the day on 91/1 with Rafsan al Mahmud not out on 53.

In the other tier one match in Rajshahi’s Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium, the host got on top with a combined batting performance but only opener Mizanur Rahman could reach triple figure.

Mizanur’s 115 along with Farhad Reza’s 83 and skipper Jahurul Islam’s 91 saw them post 446/6 in reply to Khulna’s 210 in the first innings.

Mizanur resumed the day on 74 with his side on 122/1.

Dhaka opener Rony Talukdar was not out exactly on 100 and his partner Abdul Mazid was unbeaten on 66 as the side coasted to 176 without loss in the second innings after two low first innings totals in the match.

Rony played just 110 balls and scored eight boundaries and three sixes while Mazid was more sedate as he faced 150 balls to give him excellent support in Fatullah’s Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium.

Earlier, Chittagong resumed the day on 25/2 replying to Dhaka’s 238 but they failed to get any tempo as Dhaka bowlers picked up wickets at regular intervals.

At one stage, the hapless batting order was reduced to 106/9 before a 36-run last wicket partnership, highest in the innings added some runs and reduced the arrears under 100.

But at the end of the day, Dhaka stretched their lead to 272 with all second innings wickets intact.

Shahadat Hossain was the pick of the bowlers for Dhaka as he got 4/62.

In the other game, Dhaka Metropolis spinners wrecked havoc on Sylhet as they reduced the host to 72/6 before overnight batsman Shahanur Rahman (34) and Enamul Haque Jr (37) navigated the side to 132/6.

Arafat Sunny got 4/48 and Mohammad Ashraful, who earlier made 53 to help his side reach 426 after resuming on 332-4, got 2-35 as Sylhet still trail by 294 runs.
