Bangladesh cricket Board Media Committee Chairman Jalal Yunus has backed the statement of national chief selector Minhajul Abedin regarding the chances of including Mohammad Ashraful in the National fold after his ban expires on Monday.

Minhajul said on Sunday that Ashraful will need to perform exceptionally well in at least one more domestic season to be eligible for national selection. Now Jalal Yunus also voiced a similar opinion and said Ashraful needs to prove his fitness and performance in domestic level before being considered for the national team again.

“Ashraful is no different than any other player. He has to earn his national team call-up like any other cricketer. You know, he was out of international cricket for five years. He has played two seasons in this time but that is not enough. Fitness is also a concern. I heard the chief selector said he is not in consideration at the moment. He has to play in next year’s domestic season in all formats and needs to perform well. So we need to wait more before considering his selection. He is also open to play in the BPL now.  It is now upon the franchise teams as to whether they want to pick him or not,” Jalal Yunus said to the media.

In the recent past some controversial matters came to social media regarding some national cricketers and their involvement in scandals. Jalal Yunus assured that the Board is well informed about these matters and will take proper action soon.

“Our Board President has informed that we will not give any leeway regarding discipline. We will follow a zero-tolerance method if discipline is breached. We have received a few complaints about some players. Our disciplinary committee is working on that. Soon, the accused will be called up and necessary actions will be taken upon investigation.”

The media committee chairman also praised the work of new coach Steve Rhodes. Bangladesh has won the ODI and T20I series against the West Indies recently. He informed the coach had a discussion with the BCB about the last series and upcoming series. And the BCB will start programs eying next year’s World Cup.

“The coach has not gotten proper time to work with the team so far. I can comment about him after a few more series’.  But to be honest in his first series against the West Indies, he has made some positive observations. We will work on these areas in near future. He has a plan for the 2019 World Cup as well. He had a discussion with the Cricket Operations Committee about his plan. We will fix a program according to the plan before the World Cup,” he concluded.
