Top-order batsman Imrul Kayes’ 17th first-class century and half-centuries from opener Anamul Haque and the veteran Tushar Imran enabled Prime Bank South Zone to take a massive lead against league-topper BCB North Zone in the sixth and last round of the Bangladesh Cricket League Wednesday.
South Zone declared their first innings with a 172-run lead after scoring 365 losing eight wickets in 105 overs. Later, North Zone batted out eight overs in the second innings, trailing by 146 runs at stumps on day two at Sheikh Abu Naser Cricket Stadium in Khulna.
South Zone resumed the day on 115 for the loss of one wicket in 29 overs. The side had come in to bat back by confidence gained from a sharp bowling performance and it reflected in their batting as Imrul made 107 to guide South Zone to a big score. The left-handed batsman struck 13 boundaries and two over boundaries in his 165-ball innings.
The effort was complemented by Anamul’s 89 and Tushar’s 65. All-rounder Farhad Reza topped the North Zone bowling attack with five wickets conceding 57 runs in 21 overs. In the process, Farhad registered his seventh five-for in the format.
East Zone v Central Zone
No 3 batsman Abdul Mazid’s double hundred boosted Walton Central Zone to 546 all out in 125.3 overs in the first innings against Islami Bank East Zone at Shaheed Kamruzzaman Cricket Stadium in Rajshahi. At stumps, East Zone trailed by 282 runs with seven wickets in hand.
Central Zone resumed the day on their overnight score of 406/4 in 89 overs and added another 140 to the board as all-rounder Shuvagata Hom scored 71 while Mazid made 205. Mazid was retired hurt on 159 on day one. East Zone spinner Sohag Gazi bagged five wickets.
Later, opener Liton Das remained unbeaten on a fiery 139 while No 4 batsman Tasamul Haque added 67 to guide East Zone to 264/3 in 46 overs. Liton in his 125-ball innings smashed 23 fours and a six. Central Zone spinner Shuvagata picked up two wickets.
