Nasir: Abahani four matches away from DPL title
Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League season 2018 table-topper Abahani Limited extended their lead at the top of the points table after winning the first game in the Super League against holder Gazi Group Cricketers at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Saturday. The Dhanmondi-based club defeated Gazi Group by 73 runs to bag their ninth win in 12 matches and go one step closer to the championship. Second placed Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club have seven wins and are ahead of four other teams in the Super League phase. Abahani captain Nasir Hossain is hopeful of securing the title and said they are only four matches away from meeting their ambition.

“I think we are just four matches away (from the championship trophy). I think we were not able to play upto the mark, based on the players we have in the team. All the wins have come from team effort, there was no occasion when a player won a game for the side single-handedly. And there has been no consistent performance. I do not think anyone other than Mashrafe (bin Mortaza) bhai is performing consistently in the team,” said Nasir to the media Saturday. Abahani, despite having Mashrafe in the set-up has put Nasir in charge of the team. Nasir explaining his job said his work was made easy by the presence of senior cricketers in the side in the shape of Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe and wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Mithun, among others. “I have a very small role to play, to be honest, given that there are many seniors in the team. And most of my decisions are coming only after consulting with Mashrafe bhai. You might not find him talking much in the field but he is totally involved,” Nasir informed.
