Abahani return to winning ways, Khelaghar seal thriller
Table topper Abahani Limited got back to winning ways as they defeated Shinepukur Cricket Club by 56 runs in their Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2017-18 season match at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Cricket Stadium in Fatullah Sunday. In the other matches of the day, surprise package Khelaghar Samaj Kalyan Samity continued their stunning run this season, securing a nail-biting last-ball, two-wicket win over Prime Bank Cricket Club at BKSP while holder Gazi Group Cricketers beat Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club by four wickets at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. Abahani v Shinepukur Asked to bat first, Abahani posted a huge total of 335 for the loss of four wickets in their stipulated 50 overs. No 3 batsman Nazmul Hossain Shanto smashed an unbeaten 150 off 120 balls with nine fours and as many sixes. Opener Saif Hasan scored 94 while captain Nasir Hossain made 45 off 24 balls. Shinepukur’s Saifuddin and Naeem Islam Jr took two wickets each. In reply, Shinepukur registered 279 losing just three wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Opener Fardeen Hasan Ony scored 104 before retiring hurt. Youngster Towhid Hridoy made 83 while opener Shadman Islam scored 53. In-form Abahani pacer Mashrafe bin Mortaza picked up two wickets. Khelaghar v Prime Bank Khelaghar won yet another thriller in the country’s premier domestic 50-over competition. Invited to take first guard, Prime Bank made 261 losing all of their wickets in 49.5 overs. Middle-order batsman Al Amin was the top-scorer with 94. Khelaghar spinner Tanvir Islam took three wickets conceding just 28 runs while seamer Mohammad Saddam bagged four wickets. In pursuit of the target, Khalaghar reached their destination in the last ball of the innings. Three runs were required off the final ball and No 8 batsman Masum Khan struck the winning boundary for Khelaghar. Captain Amit Majumdar scored 71 while Indian recruit Ashok Menaria made 63. Khelaghar following the win moved to third in the points table with 14 points in 11 matches. Prime Bank’s Shoriful Islam took four wickets.

Doleshwar v Gazi Group Doleshwar only managed 186 losing nine wickets in their 50 overs in the face of some controlled bowling by Gazi Group. No 3 batsman Fazle Mahmud scored 65 for Doleshwar. Gazi Group’s Fawad Alam bagged three wickets while Tipu Sultan took two. In reply, Gazi reached their target within 39 overs. Opener Mehedi Hasan scored 59 while Fawad made 46.
