Moments: Lucky Liton, Mushfiq's wild swing and Dhawan's second fifty in a row
Lucky Liton Bangladesh batsmen could hardly make any impact against a second-string India bowling attack. The side had struggled to put on 139 runs on the board after being sent in to bat first. Only two off the six batsmen in the playing XI could score more than 30 runs for the Tigers with Liton Das scoring the highest - a 30-ball 34. Liton, who had put himself into consideration following his blazing innings in the lone practice game against Sri Lanka Cricket President’s XI Tuesday at Colombo Cricket Club, was lucky to survive thrice - dropped twice in an over and surviving a run-out opportunity. In the seventh over of Bangladesh’s innings, the right-handed batsman was dropped by Suresh Raina and Washington Sundar. In the next over - Dinesh Karthik missed the stumps as Liton ran for a single with Mushfiqur Rahim on strike. Mushfiq's wild swing Losing two openers in the first five overs, Mushfiq had walked into the middle with a bit of expectation riding on his shoulder - the wicket-keeper batsman after all was on fire in the practice game scoring 65 off 44 deliveries. As it was with most of the Bangladesh batsmen on the day, Mushfiq was firing from all cylinders and was partnering well with Liton until the ninth over. The right-handed batsman in the fourth ball of the over pulled for a six off Vijay Shankar. Mushfiq went for the ambitious shot in the next ball too only to be out caught behind. The on-field umpire had failed to judge the dismissal and India got it from the Decision Review System. Dhawan’s second fifty in a row Shikhar Dhawan struck his second consecutive half-century in the Nidahas T20I tri-nation series to guide India to their first win in two matches. Dhawan blazed his way to a 49-ball 90 in the first game, against Sri Lanka. But the effort went in vain as the Indian bowlers failed to defend the total. Thursday against Bangladesh, Dhawan had a cooler approach, based on the target, adding 55 off 43 deliveries with five boundaries and two over boundaries. India eventually reached the shore with six wickets and eight balls to spare. This is Dhawan’s sixth T20I fifty in 32 innings.
