Ace all-rounder Shakib al Hasan travelled to Colombo to boost Bangladesh as the Tigers prepare to start their Nidahas T20I tri-nation series campaign taking on India at R Premadasa Cricket Stadium Thursday.
The injured Shakib reached Colombo and joined the Bangladesh team to support his teammates Tuesday and was with the team during practice at R Premadasa Wednesday morning.
Shakib, the Bangladesh Test and T20I captain, was initially named in the squad for the Nidahas series only to be later ruled out after failing to recover from finger injury. The all-rounder has been out of action for the Tigers since January this year, after injuring his little left finger during the ODI tri-series final against Sri Lanka at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
All-rounder Mahmudullah has been given the charge to lead the team in place of Shakib in the Nidahas series.
"Yes, Shakib is in Sri Lanka now," informed Mahmudullah to the media Wednesday. "He is with the team now. It is good to have him with the team and the players are excited. He is here to share his words and thoughts with the team," the Bangladesh T20I stand-in captain added.
It is understood that Shakib will leave Colombo Wednesday night and travel to Australia for treatment on his injured finger.
