Shakib in Thailand for medical checkup

Update : 27 Feb 2018, 09:44 PM
Bangladesh T20I captain Shakib al Hasan’s availability in the Nidahas Series 2018 will depend on the reports from his medical checkup in Thailand. According to BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury, Shakib travelled to Bangkok Monday night and his appearance for the Tigers in the tri-nation T20I series involving India and host Sri Lanka will depend on his reports and recovery from finger injury. "Shakib is in Thailand now and supposed to meet orthopedic surgeons (Tuesday). He has travelled to Bangkok for medical advice. A final decision on his availability will be taken once he returns. At this point we are hoping for him to travel to Sri Lanka with the team for the Nidahas Trophy," said Nizamuddin to the media Tuesday.

The BCB Monday announced a 16-member Bangladesh T20I squad for the Nidahas Trophy with Shakib as captain of the side, despite uncertainty surrounding the ace all-rounder's availability. Shakib was ruled out of action after he injured his left little finger during the final of the ODI tri- series, against Sri Lanka, last month. The injury put the left-arm all-rounder out from the two-match Test and T20I home series against Sri Lanka which concluded earlier this month. Bangladesh started the new year with one horrendous performance after another so the BCB is desperate to Shakib back in the dressing room, and the cricketer's trip to Bangkok is part of the process.
