Sheikh Jamal prevail in DPL nail-biter
Prime Bank Cricket Club, Brothers Union and Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi club started their Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League season 2017-18 on a winning note as they won their respective matches Wednesday. However, it was Sheikh Jamal who registered the most exciting win of the day by defeating Legends of Rupganj by just three runs in a nail-biter to render Rupganj captain Naeem Islam's unbeaten century useless. Rupganj’s middle-order batsman Naeem recorded the first century of the season while the side's spinner Asif Hasan bagged his maiden List A hat-trick, emerging as the sixth Bangladeshi to register the feat in List A cricket. Rupganj v Sk Jamal Chasing 231, Rupganj fell short by just three runs, despite having two wickets in hand at BKSP 4. Naeem was set in the middle alongside lower-order batsman Mosharraf Hossain as Rupganj needed 11 runs in the last over for victory. However, Sheikh Jamal pacer Abu Jayed denied the opposition after giving away only eight runs in the final over, besides dismissing Mosharraf in the fourth ball. Naeem remained unbeaten on 116 off as many balls with eight boundaries and four over boundaries as his opponent had the last laugh. Batsman Nazmul Milon added 51 to the chase. Jayed picked up four wickets while spinner Sohag Gazi took two for Sheikh Jamal. Earlier, riding on captain Nurul Hasan's 91, Sheikh Jamal posted 230 on the board losing nine wickets. Asif secured his maiden List A hat-trick as he dismissed the helpless duo Pinak Ghosh and Saikat Ali in the final two deliveries of the ninth over while in first ball of the next over, he dismissed opener Hasanuzzaman. Prime Bank v Kalabagan Krira Chakra Prime Bank clinched a seven-wicket victory over Kalabagan Krira Chakra after chasing down 173 in Fatullah's Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium. Batting first, batsmen Mahmudul Hasan's unbeaten 50 and Taibur Parvez's 45 aided Kalabagan to 172 for the loss of eight wickets. Prime Bank’s Delwar Hossain took three scalps to top the attack. In reply, Prime Bank opener Mehedi Maruf and youngster Zakir Hasan added 51 and 56 respectively while overseas recruit Kunal Chandela remained unbeaten on 41 to take their side to victory in 36 overs for three wickets.

Brothers v Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited Brothers captain Alok Kapali scored an unbeaten 95 to steer his side to a winning start to the season as they beat Mohammedan by five wickets at BKSP 3. Mohammedan, asked to bat first, put up 230/8. Mohammedan captain Shamsur Rahman added 85 to the tally while the side's foreign recruit Salman Butt scored 62 in his maiden DPL appearance. Brothers spinner Sohrawardi Shuvo notched two wickets. Later, Kapali made an undefeated 95 off 91 deliveries while Shuvo was not out on 30 to inspire Brothers to victory in 47.2 overs. Ebadat Hossain and Qazi Onik took two wickets each for Mohammedan.
