Chandimal: Tri-series pitches were really bad

Update : 08 Feb 2018, 01:53 AM
Visiting Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal Wednesday termed the tri-nation ODI series pitches as "bad" during the pre-match press conference, ahead of their second and final Test match against host Bangladesh. The Lankans defeated Bangladesh by 79 runs in the grand finale of the tri-series also featuring Zimbabwe. After the tri-series, Sri Lanka played the first Test against the home side in Chittagong’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Cricket Stadium last week following which Lanka opener Dimuth Karunaratne termed the pitch "not good for Test cricket" as the match ended in a draw.

Later, the ZACCS pitch was rated “below average” by ICC Elite Panel match referee David Boon. As such, the wicket in the port city has received one demerit point in accordance with the ICC pitch and outfield monitoring process. “We saw in the tri-series that they were really bad pitches. It was good for the spinners but not for the batters. It is a challenge to the batters. It looks like a dry surface. Spinners will come into play in this game. I don’t see that much of a difference in the wicket. It looks similar,” Chandimal said to the media at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. The second Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka starts Thursday.
