Tamim creates world record, also reaches 6,000-run ODI club
Bangladesh opening batsman Tamim Iqbal has broken the world record of scoring the highest number of runs at a particular venue, overlapping Sri Lanka legend Sanath Jayasuriya’s record of scoring 2514 runs in Colombo’s Premadasa Stadium. With the 76-run innings against Zimbabwe Tuesday, Tamim has now scored 2549 runs in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. In the meantime, Tamim also crossed the 6,000-run ODI milestone as the first Bangladeshi. After Tuesday's 76-run knock, Tamim's ODI runs tally now stands at 6010 in 175 innings, including nine centuries and 41 half-centuries. Tamim is the 55th batsman in ODI history to cross the 6000-run landmark. Tamim is the highest Bangladeshi run-scorer in the 50-over format. All-rounder Shakib al Hasan, who scored 51 Tuesday, is second in the list with 5235 runs. Wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim is third with 4670 runs. Tamim scored his first ODI century in Mirpur against Ireland in 2008. He eventually made 129 on that day. Among his nine ODI centuries, Tamim scored five in Mirpur. Apart from Ireland, Tamim also scored centuries against England once, Pakistan twice and Afghanistan once at this venue. After Tamim and Jayasuriya, Pakistan’s Inzamam-ul-Haq, with 2464 runs in 59 innings, is third in the list of scoring the highest number of runs at a particular venue. Shakib is fourth with 2369 runs in 73 innings in Mirpur. During the post match press conference, Tamim said, “Obviously it feels good. I knew before the match how much I needed to score to get the two records. It is fulfilling to know that you have scored the most in a particular ground or getting to 6,000. I said in the last press conference that I will celebrate this achievement. I think you need to celebrate every achievement. It is most special to be the top-scorer at one venue, and that it is a Bangladesh is more special to me.” He added, “(Smiles) I think my mental state or how I am training...I am very focused and I know what I want to do, how long I want to do it. And I have always said for any batsman, especially in the top three or top four, the first 20-25 balls is always difficult. Once you play 20-25 balls you will start feeling a little comfortable and then you have to make sure that you score big. I am trying to do that; because I am having a good time I am trying to maximise this time. I said before that you never know when the bad patch comes, so when you are having a good time, you have to score as much as you can.” MOST RUNS IN A GROUND Player Inns Runs Tamim 73 2549 Jayasuriya 70 2514 Inzamam 59 2464   HIGHEST TIGERS ODI RUN-SCORERS Player Inns Runs Tamim 175 6010 Shakib 173 5235 Mushfiq 168 4670
