Islami Bank East Zone made a strong start on day one, riding on Liton Kumar Das and Zakir Hasan's centuries against Walton Central Zone, in their Bangladesh Cricket League third round match at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna Sunday.
In the other game, BCB North Zone posted 214 runs losing three wickets, courtesy Mizanur Rahman’s ton against Prime Bank South Zone at Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi.
East Zone v Central Zone
East Zone are heading towards a big total after finishing the day on 332 for the loss of three wickets. East Zone elected to bat but Mehedi Maruf (17) and Mominul Haque (four) were not able to score big. But Liton and Zakir formed a 193-run partnership for the third wicket to put their side in a strong position. Liton scored 112 off 186 balls with eight boundaries and a six while Zakir remained unbeaten on 156 off 235 deliveries with 18 fours.
Tasamul Haque (35) was the other not out batsman. Shuvagata Hom picked up two wickets for Central Zone.
North Zone v South Zone
South Zone elected to field first as the North Zone openers Mizanur and Junaid Siddique made a brilliant start, adding 169 for the opening wicket. Mizanur slammed a brilliant century as he scored 106 with 17 boundaries.
South Zone picked up three quick wickets within just two runs as, from 169 for no loss, North Zone stuttered to 171/3. But from there, Junaid and Naeem Islam formed an unbroken 43-run partnership. Junaid remained not out on 82 with nine fours and two sixers. Veteran spinner Abdur Razzak took all three wickets for South Zone.
