Islami Bank East Zone captain Mominul Haque was at the centre of discussion as he registered the first double century in the Bangladesh Cricket League season 2018. The left-handed batsman struck 257 to guide East Zone to 546 in the first innings against Prime Bank South Zone at BKSP Group 4 Wednesday. At stumps on day two, South Zone trail by 418 in the first innings with seven wickets in hand.
Mominul resumed his innings on day two on an unbeaten 169 and stretched it to 257, his best in first-class cricket. Mominul’s previous best in the format was 239, registered in the 2015-16 season of the National Cricket League for Chittagong. Mominul faced 344 deliveries and struck 23 boundaries and three over-boundaries before South Zone veteran spinner Abdur Razzak pinned the batsman in front.
Mominul’s innings was complemented by youngster Zakir Hasan’s 119 which propelled East Zone to 546 all-out. Razzak topped the South Zone bowler’s chart with six scalps, his 30th five-for in first-class cricket.
In reply, South Zone lost three wickets for 128 in the first innings before the umpires removed the bails to signal the end of the day’s play. Bangladesh batsman Mosaddek Hossain and experienced campaigner Tushar Imran were unbeaten on 42 and 22 respectively. Spinner Sohag Gazi picked up two wickets for East Zone.
BCB North Zone v Walton Central Zone
Riding on captain Jahurul Islam’s unbeaten 152, North Zone took a 245-run lead in the first innings at the end of day two against Central Zone at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
North Zone on the day resumed their innings on 93 for no loss and went on to post 433 on the board losing seven wickets. Opener Mizanur Rahman added 64 to the tally while wicketkeeper-batsman Dhiman Ghosh scored 93 but it was Jahurul who grabbed all the limelight. The right-handed batsman was unbeaten on 152 off 232 deliveries with 14 fours and five sixes.
Central Zone pacer Taskin Ahmed bagged three wickets while spinners Mosharraf Hossain and Shuvagata Hom picked up two wickets each for the franchise.
