Hasan to make best use of second chance
Right-arm pacer Abul Hasan has returned to the national fold riding on his performances for the BCB High Performance Unit and lately, in the fifth edition of the BPL T20. The all-rounder, named in the 16-member Bangladesh squad for the tri-nation ODI series against visiting sides Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, during his tenure with Sylhet Sixers in BPL 2017 was under the supervision of bowling consultant Waqar Younis. According to Hasan, who picked up 10 wickets in nine innings in BPL 5, the tournament was a platform for him to get back to the national side and guidance from the legendary Pakistan pacer Waqar boosted his confidence level. “BPL was a challenge for me to return to the national team. I was confident that working under Waqar would help me develop my skill, particularly with reverse swing and slower deliveries. But now is my time to prove and hold my place in the national team,” said Hasan to the media at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Tuesday. The last time Hasan appeared in national colour was in 2015 in the ODI series against Pakistan at home. Bangladesh had whitewashed the tourist in the three- ODI series. Hasan, who first appeared for the Bangladesh ODI side six years ago, during the home series against the West Indies, has played six ODIs but is yet to pick up a wicket in the 50-over format. To add to that, he battled against persistent injuries. Hasan however, said he is confident of changing his stats relying on the changes he made in his bowling over the past few years. “I have worked on my line and length during the off season, and recently in the BPL. I would have definitely performed better if I had worked more on my skills. I now think I do things perfectly. I am confident and will try to make best use of my talent if given the opportunity,” Hasan informed.
