Shakib named Bangladesh's best 2017 sportsman by BSPA
Ace Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan was awarded the best Bangladesh sportsman accolade for the year 2017 by Bangladesh Sports Press Association in a ceremony in Dhaka Saturday. The Tigers' Test and T20I captain won the award ahead of the likes of shooter Arnab Shahrar Ladif, who won silver in the 10m air rifle event at the Asian Airgun Championship and young footballer Jafar Iqbal. Bangladesh ODI skipper Mashrafe bin Mortaza won the people's choice award while other winners include Enamul Hossain Razib (best chess player), Zonayna Ahmed (best swimmer), athlete Jahir Raihan (best young talent), Mohammad Salahuddin (best cricket coach), Mahfuza Akter Kiron (best organiser), Mofiz Uddin (best grass-roots level coach) and Robi (best sponsor). Special awards were presented to Badal Roy and Abdus Salam Murshedy for their achievement to football. BSPA, the country's oldest organisation for sports journalists and writers, introduced the awards as far back as 1964.
