BCB boss Nazmul: Players confident of playing next series without coach
BCB officials Saturday met the existing coaching staffs of the national team, and ODI captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza, Test skipper Mushfiqur Rahim and T20I captain Shakib al Hasan regarding the selection of the new head coach. Former Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathursingha resigned from his post after the Tigers’ tour of South Africa. He was recently appointed Sri Lanka coach. The Lankans will come to Bangladesh to play a full series next month. The BCB has already taken the interview of Richard Pybus for the vacant position of Bangladesh coach while West Indian Phil Simmons, who is also a candidate, arrived Saturday evening.

BCB boss Nazmul Hasan informed that they are not in any hurry to appoint the next coach and that the current coaching staffs and captains are ready to play the next series without a coach, if the situation demands. “We had a meeting with our national team coaching staffs and three captains with regards to Bangladesh’s upcoming series. Hathurusingha is no longer with us as coach. So we need a new coach soon. As you know we are going through a process for selecting the next coach of our national team. It might happen that we won’t be able to find an appropriate coach for the national team before the next series,” Nazmul said at a city hotel. “In that case, we wanted to know whether the current coaching staffs, including assistant and fielding coach Richard Halsall, director Khaled Mahmud, spin consultant Sunil Joshi and pace bowling coach Courtney Walsh, and the three captains can play the series confidently or not. Everyone assured us that if we are not able to find a new coach by this time, they can manage and play confidently in the upcoming series. In the meeting, we discussed about their planning for the next series and possible dates for the national team camp.

“Actually we don’t want to select new coach for the national team in a hurry. We want the best possible solution in this regard. It doesn’t mean we don’t want to select our next coach soon. The coach can be selected even tomorrow or day after tomorrow. We just wanted to know if they are ready for the series without a coach, or for that matter, an interim coach,” he added. It was learned that Hathurusingha arrived in Dhaka Saturday morning to finalise his departure procedure. “I have not talked with Hathurusingha yet. He has come to Bangladesh. He has a scheduled meeting with our CEO (Nizamuddin Chowdhury) and the board directors. He will then complete the formalities,” informed Nazmul.
