Sylhet Sixers have complained to the BCB regarding an incident where their bowler Kamrul Islam Rabbi had to bowl seven balls to complete an over against Rangpur Riders at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Cricket Stadium Tuesday.
Rangpur eventually won the BPL 2017 match by four wickets and literally ended Sylhet’s hope of finishing in the top four in the points table. The incident happened in the 16th over. When queried about the incident, Rabbi said he did inform this to the umpire but the official denied it, and thus, the right-arm pacer had to bowl an extra ball to complete the over.
“Yes, I informed to the umpire. I told him (umpire Mahfuzur Rahman Litu) that I have bowled six balls. But umpire told me that five bowls have been bowled so far. I told him to recheck as I was sure that I bowled six balls. Then he called the third umpire. The third umpire also told him that five bowls have been bowled. So I had to bowl an extra ball in that over,” Rabbi said.
Meanwhile, the Sylhet media manager also informed that they have officially complained to cricket’s governing body in the country about the incident.
“Our captain (Nasir Hossain) figured this out in the field. Then after informing the third umpire, after cross checking, he informed us to file a complaint. The officials informed that they will inform us after looking at video footage. At the end of the day, we also know that the on-field call is final. We just informed the matter to the BCB about our concern. Now the matter is upon BCB,” said the Sylhet media manager.
The two on-field umpires who officiated the Rangpur-Sylhet match was Mahfuzur and Ranmore Martinesz while the TV umpire was Gazi Sohel.
