The BCB is planning to arrange a T20 tournament before the BPL from next season onwards.
“The BCB is planning to arrange a local T20 tournament under the BPL governing council to improve the performance of local cricketers. Only local cricketers will take part in that tournament. Four or five teams will participate there. It will not be a franchise-based tournament. It can be like the Bangladesh Cricket League with teams like South Zone, North Zone, East Zone and West Zone,” BPL GC member secretary Ismail Haider Mallick informed to the media at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Friday.
“We will organise the tournament in such a way that a player can adopt the mentality of competition to survive in international cricket. Already our honorable board president gave the green signal regarding this. We will arrange the tournament before the BPL from next season onwards. The time and date have not been fixed yet. We have to consider the schedule of our national team as well as we want our national cricketers to be available in that tournament,” said Mallick.
BPL GC chairman Afzalur Rahman Sinha, member Jalal Younus and the BCB’s cricket operations committee chairman Akram Khan were also present at the press conference.
