All-round Comilla overcome Chittagong
Comilla Victorians registered a comprehensive six-wicket win against Chittagong Vikings in their BPL 2017 match at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Tuesday. Chasing 140 runs, Comilla reached their target within 18.1 overs. No 3 batsman Imrul Kayes was the highest scorer for Comilla with 45 off 36 balls while English wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler made 44 off 31 balls. Comilla’s icon player Tamim Iqbal, who returned to the playing XI after recovering from injury, scored only four off 10 balls before being caught at short third man while trying to pull spinner Dilshan Munaweera. Earlier, Comilla skipper Mohammad Nabi won the toss and chose to bowl. In-form Chittagong opener Luke Ronchi made another flying start as the stumper-batsman scored 31 off 19 balls with five fours and a six. Ronchi was the first wicket to fall, in the first ball of the sixth over as Comilla all-rounder Saifuddin bagged a vital scalp. After Ronchi’s dismissal, the run rate gradually slowed down and eventually, they managed to post 139 in their stipulated 20 overs. Opener Soumya Sarker (30 off 32 balls), Munaweera (19 off 25 balls), No 4 batsman Sikandar Raza (20 off 24 balls) and captain Misbah-ul-Haq (16 off 11 balls) made good contributions but none of the batsmen were able to accelerate the run-rate for the Vikings in the latter part of their innings. BRIEF SCORE Comilla Victorians 140/4 in 18.1 overs (Imrul 45, Buttler 44) beat Chittagong Vikings 139/4 (Ronchi 31, Soumya 30) by six wickets
