Comilla Victorians registered their second win of BPL 2017 when they defeated Rajshahi Kings by nine wickets at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Sunday.
Comilla cruised to their target within 15.1 overs while chasing 116, losing only the wicket of opener Liton Kumar Das. Liton made a quick start, scoring 23 off 12 balls before being cleaned up by Rajshahi seamer Farhad Reza.
England’s Jos Buttler was the highest scorer for Comilla with 50 off 39 balls. Buttler smashed four boundaries and two sixes. No 3 batsman Imrul Kayes was the other not out batsman, blasting 44 off 41 balls with four fours and a sixer.
Earlier, Comilla captain Mohammad Nabi won the toss and elected to field.
Rajshahi lost their first wicket in the fourth over when Mominul Haque (two) was caught by Buttler off the bowling of Nabi. From there, Rajshahi lost regular wickets and gave away the momentum to Comilla.
Opener Lendl Simmons was batting beautifully at the other end as their healthy run rate continued to soar. But the right-hander pulled his hamstring in the sixth over and was later carried away from the field by a stretcher. Simmons was batting on 40 off 23 balls when he retired hurt.
Nabi took three wickets conceding just 15 runs. But leg-spinner Rashid Khan was the best bowler for the Victorians as he not only took wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim’s wicket but conceded just seven in his quota of four overs.
Rashid was adjudged man of the match for his economical bowling.
120/1 in 15.1 overs (Simmons 40*, Nabi 3/15) beat Rajshahi Kings
115/7 (Buttler 50*, Imrul 44*) by nine wickets
WHAT THEY SAID
Mushfiqur Rahim, Rajshahi Kings captain
We scored because of quality bowling from the opposition. [Saturday] it was Sunil Narine and Shahid Afridi and [Sunday] Mohammad Nabi, Dwayne Bravo and Rashid Khan played brilliantly. We started well but the injury of Lendl Simmons in a crucial stage of the game enabled the momentum to shift to the opposition. Apart from brilliant and bowling from the opposition, our batsmen did not bat well. The application was poor from our batters and the runs on the board were definitely not upto the mark. We have to improve soon.
Rashid Khan, Comilla Victorians spinner
I always enjoy playing here in Bangladesh as last year I also played well here. These wickets are helpful for spinners. So I just tried to keep up my bowling to good length and constant pace. It is always hard to score free runs against a leg-spinner if the line is right. So I always try to bowl constantly (good) line, whether in the nets or matches. So good length area is my target in all situations and I always try to bowl there.
