Buttler scores two on BPL debut
England’s explosive batsman Jos Buttler made his BPL debut for Comilla Victorians Sunday. But the right-hander managed to score only two runs off five balls in his first stint. Sylhet Sixers spinner Taijul Islam took his wicket in the first ball of the eighth over. It was a length delivery from Taijul and drifted in the trajectory of the middle stump. Buttler stepped away outside leg, eyeing up an inside-out loft. Instead, he checked his shot at the last moment and chipped it to his England team mate Liam Plunkett at long-off. It was a big moment of the game as Buttler is well known for his destructive batting. Buttler has played 49 innings in T20Is and scored his runs at a brilliant strike rate of 138.71.
Rashid takes vital wicket, misses catch before losing match
Comilla’s Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan made a vital inroad, picking up the important wicket of Sylhet skipper Nasir Hossain (18) in the last ball of the 17th over. Sylhet were cruising while chasing 146 but after Nasir’s dismissal, they seemed shaky. It seemed Rashid’s wicket of Nasir was extremely vital. In the last over, 10 runs were needed as Comilla picked up a wicket in the first ball. But in the very next delivery, Sylhet’s wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan charged down the ground and lofted the ball over long-on for a six. Rashid was in the boundary and he missed a tough chance as the ball went past over the rope after touching his hand. That was the turning point of the game. Later, it proved to be costly for Comilla. Catches win matches but it seems Rashid missed the point.
Delport drop proves costly
Khulna Titans made a good start by removing Dhaka Dynamites opener Kumar Sangakkara early in their innings. But the other opener Evin Lewis and No 3 batsman Cameron Delport produced an aggressive 116-run stand for the second wicket, building a platform for Dhaka for a big total. Lewis scored 66 off 40 balls while Delport smashed 64 off 31 deliveries. Delport however, produced a half chance in the last ball of the eighth over, which went down. The left-hander was batting on 10 off seven balls. It was a shortish ball from seamer Jofra Archer and Delport hammered a pull shot towards wide of long-on. The fielder, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, got across to his right and dived but ended up spilling it. The ball deflected off his palm before sailing across the boundary. Delport later added 47 in his next 20 deliveries before getting out. It was a very tough chance but the miss proved costly in the end.
Shakib double strike dents Khulna chase
It was a huge task for Khulna as Dhaka set a 203-run target. An explosive start was needed from Khulna if they were to chase down the huge target but they were immediately under pressure as opener Shanto got out quickly. But it was Dhaka captain Shakib al Hasan who made the major strike as he trapped No 3 batsman Carlos Brathwaite. Brathwaite was promoted to No 3 for power hitting but the tall West Indian was dismissed without troubling the scorer in the third over. The other opener Chadwick Walton played some beautiful shots and scored a quickfire 30 off 13 balls but Shakib also removed him in the fifth over. So double strikes from the Dhaka skipper took his side well in the driving seat.
