Razzak steers Khulna to easy win in NCL
Holder Khulna were the only side to bag a win in the second round of the 19th National Cricket League Monday. Khulna defeated Barisal in tier 1 to top the points table. The other three matches were affected by rain and wet outfield as two of the matches ended in a draw while one got abandoned. Riding on left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak’s 15th five wicket-haul in first-class cricket, Khulna registered a 239-run victory against Barisal at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna. Barisal chasing 402 started the day on 32 without loss. The side however, got humbled as Razzak dismissed five batsmen while Moinul Hossain picked up three wickets to take Khulna to a mammoth win. Opener Fazle Rabbi scored 88, the highest in the innings, to propel the side to 163 for the loss of all wickets. Khulna with one win in two matches and with 10 points are at the top of the tier 1 standing. The high-scoring game at Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi ended in a draw. Rajshahi resumed their first innings on the day on 147 and stretched their total to 415 all-out.

Rajshahi captain Jahurul Islam scored 79 while national discard Junaid Siddique and batsman Farhad Hossain added 77 and 60 to the tally. Seamer Mohammad Saifuddin bagged three wickets while pacer Mehedi Hasan Rana and spinner Iftekhar Sajjad Rony took two each for Chittagong. Chittagong got to bat only one over and scored one run in the second innings before the officials removed the bails to signal the end of the game. Chittagong batsman Yasir Ali Chowdhury was adjudged man of the match for his 94 in the first innings. Rain and soggy outfield allowed only around one and a half days of play, which eventually forced the game to a draw. Rangpur resumed their first innings on the final day and thanks to four half-centuries, scored 237 losing two wickets before declaring. Opener Saymon Ahmed retired on 63 while batsmen Jahid Javed, Suhrawardi Shuvo and Nasir Hossain added 53 retired, unbeaten 56 and 52 respectively. Later, courtesy opener Rony Talukdar’s 60, Dhaka scored 150 losing three wickets in 44 overs. Spinner Sohrawardi Shuvo picked up two wickets for Rangpur. The other game between Dhaka Metropolis and Sylhet in Cox’s Bazar was abandoned.
