Kolkata’s daily Bengali newspaper Anandabazar Patrika has awarded Bangladesh captain Mashrafe bin Mortaza, naming him as the Sera Bangali person of the year.
Anandabazar arranges the award ceremony each year where it recognises the Bengali person of the year for outstanding effort in sports and other sectors.
Previously Bangladesh’s former captain Habibul Bashar and star all-rounder Shakib al Hasan received the award in 2007 and 2012 respectively while Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly and Manoj Tiwary also received the award previously.
“Every award and recognition is special for me and to receive the award for the best Bengali person from an Indian newspaper is something special. I am looking forward to receiving the award,” Mashrafe told Dhaka Tribune on Monday.
The Tigers skipper will attend the programme on Saturday and the event will be televised live on ABP Ananda channel.
