Bangladesh share points with Australia as match abandoned due to rain
Australia 83/1 (16 overs) Bangladesh 182 (44.3 overs) Bangladesh secured a draw with Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy, after the match was called off due to rain with less than 20 overs in the second innings having been bowled. Rain had delayed the start of the Australian innings and again interrupted play in the 16th over, after Bangladesh won the toss and set a meager target of 183. David Warner, 40 runs off 44 balls, and Steve Smith, 22 runs off 25 balls, were at the crease. Aaron Finch, who opened the batting with Warner, was dismissed lbw off the bowling of Rubel Hossain on the penultimate ball of the eighth over. The opener had scored 19 runs off 27 balls. Earlier, Mustafizur Rahman, 1 run off 4 balls, was left as the last man standing in the Bangladesh innings. Soumya Sarkar, who opened the batting with Tamim, was caught out off the bowling of Hazelwood for 3 runs off 11 balls, on the second ball of the sixth over. Mushfiqur Rahim was then dismissed lbw off the bowling of Moises Henriques on the second ball of the 17th over, after scoring 9 runs off 20 balls. Shakib Al Hasan was then given out lbw while on 29 runs off 48 balls, off the bowling of Travis Head on the fifth ball of the 30th over. Shakib reviewed the decision as he had taken a long stride down the pitch, but the umpire's call was confirmed by hawk-eye. Sabbir Rahman, 8 runs off 14 balls, was caught out off the bowling of Zampa on the second ball of the 35th over, almost immediately after the drinks break. Zampa picked up his second wicket shortly afterwards, when he bowled out Mahmudullah on the last ball of the 37th over after the latter had scored just 8 runs off 11 balls. Tamim Iqbal was then finally dismissed after a battling 95 runs off 114 balls, caught out off the bowling of Starc on the first ball of the 43rd over. Starc then bowled out Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza on the third ball of the same over, before bowling out Rubel Hossain on the very next ball. Starc finished off the innings with his fourth wicket, bowling out Mehedi Hasan on the third ball of the 45th over after the batsman had scored 14 runs off 26 balls. Despite a forecast for heavy rain around 6pm, Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza decided to bat first against Australia at The Oval. He said the pitch was good for batting, and it was a straightforward decision in a "do-or-die" game. Steven Smith said he would have batted first too, considering it was a used pitch. He also wanted to use the gloomy overhead conditions in London. Australia made a single change, picking legspinner Adam Zampa over seam-bowling allrounder John Hastings. Bangladesh chose to strengthen their bowling by bringing in Mehedi Hasan for batsman Mosaddek Hossain.
