Defending champion Abahani Limited are at the top of the Super League points table in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2016-17 season. They defeated Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club on Tuesday by seven wickets in the third round of the phase to take the solo lead. Before this round, Abahani, Gazi Group Cricketers and Doleshwar were jointly at the summit with 20 points each.
The game between Gazi and Prime Bank Cricket Club got washed off due to overcast weather and wet outfield.
In the third game of the day, Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited won against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club but the result hardly had any effect in the standings, given that both the sides are at the bottom.
Abahani v Doleshwar, BKSP 3
Half centuries from youngster Saif Hasan and opening batsman Shadman Islam boosted Abahani to a seven-wicket win over Doleshwar. Chasing 190 runs, Abahani lost the wicket of the in-form opener Liton Kumar Das with just 20 runs on the board but it didn't have any effect as Saif and Shadman posted 132 runs for the second wicket. The Sky Blues then cruised to victory in 36.3 overs. Saif scored 80 off 97 balls with nine boundaries and two over boundaries while Shadman added 65 to the tally with the help of four fours and a six. Right-arm spinner Habibur Rahman picked up two wickets for Doleshwar.
Earlier, riding on national discard Marshall Ayub’s 57, Doleshwar registered 189 losing nine wickets in 50 overs after being asked to bat first. Abahani pacer Abu Jayed took three wickets.
Mohammedan v Jamal, BKSP 4
All-round effort saw Mohammedan secure a five-wicket victory over Jamal. The Mohammedan win overshadowed Jamal's middle-order batsman Ziaur Rahman's 103 that enabled them to put up 197 for the loss of all wickets in 45 overs. Jamal earlier batted first after winning the toss. Only three other Jamal batsmen reached double figures as they struggled against a disciplined effort by the Mohammedan bowlers. Ziaur in his 85-ball innings half a dozen boundaries and nine over boundaries.
Mohammedan spinner Taijul Islam bagged three wickets to top the Mohammedan attack.
In reply, the Mohammedan batsmen chipped in decently as they reached their destination in 30.2 overs. Opener Shamsur Rahman top-scored with a 58-ball 59. Jamal spinner Elias Sunny took two wickets.
