Gazi keep winning, Khelaghar post second win

Gazi Group Cricketers clinched their sixth consecutive win in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2016-17 season to remain top of the points table. On Wednesday they beat Partex Sporting Club by four wickets while Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club registered their fifth win in six games, against Brothers Union by 92 runs. In the other match of the day, opening batsman Robiul Islam smashed a century to steer Khelaghar Samaj Kalyan Samity to their second victory this season, over Victoria Sporting Club by 57 runs.Gazi v Partex, BKSP 4Asked to bat first, Partex posted a challenging total of 270 for the loss of nine wickets in their 50 overs with wicketkeeper-batsman Irfan Sukkur (69) and Indian cricketer Jatin Saxena (61) leading the way. Seamers Abu Haider and Hossain Ali took two wickets each for the bowling side. In reply, the in-form Gazi reached their target facing no problems whatsoever with opening batsman Jahurul Islam top-scoring with 96 off 122 balls with 11 fours and a six before he retired hurt due to cramps. Opener Anamul Haque (36) and all-rounder Sohrawardi Shuvo (34) provided valuable support as Gazi reached their destination with an over to spare.Sk Jamal v Brothers, FatullahTaking first guard, Sheikh Jamal put up a huge total of 309/7 in 50 overs, riding on a century from Indian Prashant Chopra. The right-hander struck seven fours and three sixes for his 116-ball 106 while opener Fazle Mahmud and middle-order batsman Abdullah Al Mamun added 78 and 59. Pacers Kazi Kamrul Islam and Mohammad Saddam and spinner Nihaduzzaman shared six wickets between themselves. Chasing 310, Brothers never looked like chasing down the target owing to the fall of regular wickets. With the exception of Farhad Hossain’s 70, none of the batsmen were able to score significantly as Brothers were eventually bundled out for 217 in 43.5 overs. Leg-spinner Tanbir Hayder picked up 5/41 from his 8.5 overs while off-spinner Sohag Gazi took two for the bowling side. Robiul struck 15 fours and a six in his 115-ball 107 while his opening partner Salauddin Pappu struck a quickfire 60 off 51 balls with the help of five sixes and as many fours. Seamer Rubel Mia picked up three wickets while leg-spinner Islamul Ahsan took two for the bowling side. Victoria ended their chase on 246/9 after 50 overs with lower-order batsman Mohammad Arafat remaining not out on 47.
