Big guns face off in DPL Saturday
The fifth round of the DPL 2016-17 season hits the field on Saturday with the blockbuster clash between holder Dhaka Abahani Limited and table-topper Gazi Group Cricketers at the BKSP-3 ground. In the other heavyweight match of the day, Legends of Rupganj lock horns with the undefeated Prime Bank Cricket Club at the BKSP-4 ground while Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club will take on Kalabagan Krira Chakra at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah. From this round onwards, the Bangladesh national players will be unavailable in the league. With that said, this round will be crucial for all the teams concerned. Abahani lost their first game in four matches against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the previous round so the Sky Blues will have to bounce back hard against a strong Gazi. Gazi will miss their in-form performer Nasir Hossain, who flew to the UK with the national side. In his absence, Mominul Haque, who struck a blistering hundred against Doleshwar in the last game, will once again have to play a vital role with the bat. Prime Bank skipper Mehedi Maruf smashed a brilliant century in the previous game to clinch an easy win against Victoria Sporting Club. The bank outfit remained joint top in the points table, alongside Gazi, and will look to continue their winning run against Rupganj, who won three out of four matches this season. Kalabagan, who have won just once in four games, will have to work hard to earn some much needed points against Doleshwar, who have won twice from the same number of matches. TODAY'S MATCHES Abahani v Gazi, BKSP 3 Rupganj v Prime, BKSP 4 Doleshwar v Kalabagan, Fatullah
