Probe committee to submit '92 runs in four balls' report Wednesday

Update : 25 Apr 2017, 07:34 PM
The three-member committee formed to investigate the bizarre “92 runs in 4 balls” incident in the Dhaka Second Division Cricket League will submit its report to BCB president Nazmul Hasan on Wednesday. Following the last board meeting on Saturday, the BCB supremo announced the formation of a three-member committee with board director Sheikh Sohel as the head of the committee. BCB directors Jalal Younus and Akram Khan are the two other members of the committee. Jalal informed Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday that the committee has completed its investigation. “We were given three days to complete the investigation. We are done with our work. The report will be submitted to the BCB president [Wednesday],” said Jalal, who is also the chairman of the BCB's media and communications committee. The protagonist of the incident, Lalmatia Club's Sujon Mahmud, leaked 65 wides and 15 no-balls in an over as a form of protest against supposedly biased umpiring. Lalmatia Club general secretary Adnan Ahmed Dipon, the team's captain, the opposition skipper, the batsman who was on strike when the incident happened, the on-field umpires, the scorers and the match referee were all called to the hearing conducted by the investigation committee. Dhaka Tribune understood that Lalmatia Club's Sujon is likely to be the only one in the firing line and that a heavy punishment awaits the cricketer. According to sources, only Sujon admitted of being aware of the incident while everyone else involved in the game denied having idea of any such thing happening. It was also learned that the committee is helpless in proving the involvement of others in the incident. Apparently, there are lots of theories but not sufficient evidence to prove the involvement of others. Questions however, remain. Given Sujon’s relatively young age, many believe the cricketer would never have the courage to trigger such incident without the support of other individuals.
