Update : 21 Mar 2017, 06:47 PM
BCB on Tuesday announced a 15-member squad for the eight-nation tournament with Mominul named as captain. All-rounder Nasir Hossain will be his deputy. The four Test-playing nations participating in the tournament – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and host Bangladesh – are allowed to include four national cricketers while the rest must be U-23 players. In accordance with the regulation, Bangladesh have selected Mominul, Nasir, wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Mithun and pacer Abul Hasan. Bangladesh off-spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz and T20I specialist Abu Haider Rony are also part of the squad but will play as U-23 cricketers. Mominul and Miraz, who were part of the Test squad in Sri Lanka, returned home last Monday and will join the Emerging Cup squad in Cox’s Bazar after a short break. The Bangladesh squad for the tournament, along with nine other cricketers, reached the coastal city on Tuesday. The cricketers, divided into two teams, will play two practice matches, this Wednesday and Thursday, at Sheikh Kamal International Stadium. The tournament gets underway this Monday in Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar. Bangladesh have been placed in Group B, alongside Pakistan, Hong Kong and Nepal. All the Pool B matches will be played at SKICS. The home side will begin their campaign against Hong Kong in the opening day of the competition. They will then take on Nepal a day later before facing Pakistan next Thursday. Group A, meanwhile, comprises India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Malaysia. The Pool A games will be held at two venues in the port city – MA Aziz Stadium and Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. The two semi-finals will be held in Chittagong next Saturday.
