Shakib: Second Test evenly balanced
Shakib told the media in the post-day press conference at P Sara Oval in Colombo on Friday, "I think the match is evenly balanced at this moment. Crucial thing will be how both teams play in the first session [Saturday]. If we get a few wickets then we will be in the driving seat, but if we don’t get wickets and they play well, then they will be in the driving seat,” The left-hander picked up his fifth Test century and according to the context of the game, the ton was really crucial as Bangladesh managed a healthy first-innings lead. Shakib admitted that it was a special knock. “It’s a special century for me because I think I had to work really hard to get those runs. So really happy with the way I played. I have scored five centuries so far. Actually every century is special to me. To tell the truth, this century is even more special because I contributed to the team's cause,” he said. “I wouldn’t say it was very difficult to score runs but at the same time it was not very easy to score. I had to spend time at the wicket, the more I batted the more confident I got and the wicket became easier for me to bat on,” he added. Shakib played a risky cameo on day two, scoring 18 off eight balls, but on Friday, he was more patient, negotiating the deliveries according to merit. The southpaw informed Dinesh Chandimal’s patience 138-run innings inspired him to bat with a different mindset. “[Thursday on day two] I was not out, there was time to think at night. I thought what approach would be good, especially the way Chandimal batted in the first innings. I think there was a lot to learn from that knock, with regards to how to bat. That helped,” he said. Shakib also praised debutant Mosaddek Hossain for his composed knock. “I think he has a big future in Bangladesh cricket. If you talk about his international career – he has made a very good start. I have only played five-six matches with him in the premier league and a few games in BPL – but there is a good understanding between us. So whenever we bat together, we are very comfortable. We didn't even called while taking a run. But regarding his approach, I think, it is very good and appropriate for international cricket,” he added.
