Patient Mosaddek rises to occasion
Debutatnt Mosaddek Hossain played a crucial 75-run innings to help Bangladesh build a valuable first-innings lead. The batsman was relaxed and calm and played some good shots to crawl towards his maiden Test fifty. But when he was two runs away from his half-century, a stunned Mosaddek received a bouncer. It was more like a medium-pace delivery. But Mosaddek ducked and avoided the ball quite nicely. The right-handed batsman has scored seven first-class hundreds so far and among those, three were double tons. The debutant showed some class on Friday when his team needed him the most.
Herath’s 1000th first-class wicket
Rangana Herath picked up four wickets in Bangladesh's first innings. And with the wicket of Mustafizur Rahman in the 129th over, the left-arm spinner registered his name in the history books. Mustafizur's scalp was his 1000th first-class wicket. He became the second Sri Lankan in history to join the 1000-club. Muttiah Muralitharan, with 1374 wickets from 232 Tests, is the only other bowler from the island nation with 1000 first-class wickets. Herath achieved the feat at an average of 24.94. Earlier in the Galle Test, Herath emerged as the highest wicket-taking left-arm spinner, overtaking New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori.
