What Sri Lanka captain Rangana Herath said

On victory

It's very important to get a good start in any series. We are happy with what we did. Hopefully the winning mindset will carry on for the second Test as well. They batted well. The pitch still looks good. Mushfiqur [Rahim] and Soumya [Sarkar] batted well. They needed to have patience. The (Sri Lanka) bowlers bowled really well. You can’t take credit away from them. Even though the wicket had nothing much, they bowled really well and that’s why we got the rewards. As I said, there’s not much for the spinners. I thought maybe there will be something on the final day, but it still looks a good wicket.

They had got off to a good start, scoring 67 for the first wicket. In Galle, on the final day, they were batting (in) the fourth innings so naturally they would have been under pressure. I had a lot of hope on our bowlers. The final day is not easy. We had a lead of 450 (456) and it’s tough, especially playing against three spinners. Dilruwan [Perera] and [Lakshan] Sandakan gave a lot of support as well. It’s not easy to bat in the fourth innings and go after 400 (457) runs.

After a game, we look at the weak points in all three departments. We have to be more cautious when it comes to fielding as we missed a few chances. But we are learning. We will work hard and come good.
