Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed received his maiden call-up in the longest format while Mustafizur Rahman was rested for the upcoming first Test against New Zealand as the national selectors announced a 15-member squad on Friday.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim returned to the side as captain after recovering from a hamstring injury that he picked up during the first ODI at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on December 26.
Taskin, a regular member of the limited-overs sides but who is yet to play a Test, was included in the five-dayer squad for the very first time while Mustafizur, who has so far featured in the ODIs and Twenty20 internationals in New Zealand, was rested keeping in mind his comeback to the national side after a five-month lay-off.
Former national captain Habibul Bashar, one of the selectors, said the 21-year-old left-arm paceman needed to be handled with care.
"He has just returned from injury. We don't want to burden him with Test cricket just yet. We have a good bunch of fast bowlers in the team. Taskin was cleared by the physio (Dean Conway) to play Test for the first time while Rubel [Hossain] has also returned,” said Bashar.

The selectors have made two changes to the squad that was picked for their last Test, against England in Dhaka last year. Shuvagata Hom and Mosaddek Hossain have been left out while Rubel and Taskin were included in their places.
Uncapped cricketers Nurul Hasan and Subashish Roy were also included in the squad.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are yet to win a match in their ongoing New Zealand tour, having lost the ODI series 3-0 and conceded the three-match T20I series 2-0 with a game to spare.
They will wrap up the visit with two Tests, with the first beginning at Basin Reserve in Wellington this Thursday while the second Test will be held in Christchurch from January 20-24.
