The first day of the sixth round of the ongoing 18th National Cricket League was marked on Tuesday with two centuries and as many five-wicket hauls. Saif Hasan and Imtiaz Hossain slammed tons for Dhaka and Sylhet respectively while with the ball, Mohammad Saddam and Dollar Mahmud bagged five wickets each for Rangpur and Dhaka Metropolis respectively.
Dhaka v Barisal, tier one
Saif’s unbeaten 131 guided Dhaka to 300 runs for the loss of three wickets against Barisal at stumps.
Barisal had won the toss and sent Dhaka in to bat first. Barisal made a great start with the leather as Tawhidul Islam dismissed Dhaka opening batsman Rony Talukdar for a golden duck in the first ball of the innings.
Dhaka however, came out of the early shock with Saif taking charge. The right-handed batsman put up three partnerships – 100 for the second wicket with Zahiduzzaman, 76 for the third wicket with Raqibul Hasan and ended the day registering an unbroken 126 runs for the fourth wicket alongside Taibur Rahman. Taibur was undefeated on 70.
Barisal pacer Tawhidul picked up two wickets.
Khulna v Dhaka Metro, tier one
Right-arm paceman Dollar led from the front, helping Dhaka Metro to bundle table-toppers Khulna out for 207 in the first innings. Dollar enjoyed a brilliant start to the game scalping five wickets in 14 overs conceding 53 runs. Anamul Haque top-scored for Khulna with 62 runs batting at No 3.
Later, Khulna ended the day on the front foot dismissing three Dhaka Metro batsmen for 37 runs. Dhaka Metro opener Shamsur Rahman was not out on 14 while Khulna bowlers Al Amin Hossain, Ashiquzzaman and Ziaur Rahman bagged a wicket each.
Sylhet v Chittagong, tier two
Opener Imtiaz’s eighth first-class hundred helped Sylhet post 309 runs for four wickets at stumps against Chittagong. Sylhet won the toss and opted to bat first and saw Imtiaz score 134 off 211 balls with 11 boundaries and a six. Sylhet veteran cricketer Rajin Saleh added 58 to the tally. Skipper Alok Kapali and wicketkeeper-batsman Jaker Ali were unbeaten on 56 and 37 runs respectively.
Nayeem Hasan picked up two wickets for Chittagong.
Rangpur v Rajshahi, tier two
Rangapur pacer Saddam starred with a five-wicket haul to restrict Rajshahi to 191 in the first innings. Saddam conceded 57 runs in 14 overs. Rajshahi middle-order batsman Farhad Hossain scored the highest 59 with the help of seven boundaries.
The good effort by the bowlers however, was not utilised by Rangpur as the side lost four wickets for 89 runs on the board at stumps. Opener Liton Kumar Das was unbeaten on 41. Rajshahi pacers Shafiul Islam and Farhad Reza picked up two wickets each.
