Tamim Iqbal continued his brilliant run with the bat as Chittagong Vikings registered their fifth consecutive win when they beat Khulna Titans comfortably by five wickets in the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20's fourth edition at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Tuesday.
The dashing left-hander struck his fourth fifty of the tournament, remaining unbeaten on 66 as the in-form Chittagong chased down their target with eight balls to spare after Khulna once again posted a modest total of 131/8.
Following a poor start to the competition, Chittagong have scripted a brilliant turnaround and are now second in the points table with six wins from 10 matches while Khulna, whose wins and number of matches played are the same as the port city outfit, will have to regroup yet again if they are to progress to the playoffs.
Chasing 132, Chittagong were in a spot of bother after losing Chris Gayle for 19. Anamul Haque (three), Shoaib Malik (one) and Zakir Hossain (three) fared little better as Chittagong were struggling on 64/4 inside 11 overs.
But Tamim held the ship from the other end and kept the scoreboard ticking along just nicely. He paired up with Jahurul Islam (22) and added 37 runs for the fifth wicket. Jahurul however, departed soon after.
Tamim though soon reached his fifty and was unbeaten on 66 off 59 balls with eight fours and a six while Mohammad Nabi remained not out on 17 to seal a convincing win at the end.
