When was the last time Mushfiqur Rahim spoke to the media? One can perhaps hardly remember as the Bangladesh Test captain kept himself away from the journalists for nearly a year. There was even speculation that he was harbouring some anger towards the media.
Questions were raised after Bangladesh suffered a heartbreaking one-run defeat against hosts India in the 2016 World T20 where Mushfiq celebrated before the winning runs were scored.
He even posted a picture on Twitter after India lost to the West Indies in the World T20 semi-finals where he expressed his happiness over the home side's exit.
However, he soon deleted the picture after a lot of controversies.

The wicketkeeper-batsman avoided the media during the Dhaka Premier League this season where he captained Mohammedan Sporting Club. And even after winning a magnificent game against arch-rivals Abahani Limited, he remained silent.
He went through a rough patch with the bat and there were questions over his wicket-keeping as well after he missed quite a few chances behind the stumps. Before returning to form in the third ODI against England, he scored 21, 12, 12, 38 and six in his previous five innings. The low run of scores might have prompted him to keep himself out of the media limelight.
But finally it was a different Mushfiq who opened up to the media during the pre-match press conference at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium where he informed that there is no anger in him towards the media.

The diminutive cricketer said he is more keen concentrating on his own game instead of talking to the media.
When a reporter referred to him as captain before asking a question, Mushfiq said, “I am being addressed as captain after a long time, it is nice to hear.”
He continued, “No, this (abstaining from talking to the media) was due to the fact that I was concentrating on my game. I have a responsibility and instead of thinking about other things, I wanted to do my own work well. I devoted more time on and off the field and there is not much else to it besides that.
“And of course, for the last year or so there has been no Tests, so we have not met.”

Mushfiq went on to state that he is only willing to talk about his performance while he also added that he got support from the media when times were tough.
“If you ask good questions, I will give good answers. If you ask erratic questions, then maybe it will have an effect. I will try to perform well on the field as an individual, and as a team, so that you will not have the scope to ask erratic questions,” he said.
“Maybe the things I tried did not come off the way I planned. But thankfully, the process I followed by being away from you folks, you were good enough to give me the space. Maybe you saw it differently. But I tried what I thought was good for me and the team,” he added.
