Subrata, Nowshin reign supreme in Sub-Junior Chess
Subrata Biswas of Mymensingh and Nowshin Anjum of Narsingdi emerged as the champion in the open category of the Saif Power Battery National Sub-Junior Chess Championship in Dhaka Friday. Subrata earned six points in seven rounds while defending champion, Fide Master Mohammad Fahad Rahman of Pirojpur finished as the runners-up. Swarnavo Chowdhury of Elegants International Academy clinched third place. Young Bangladesh chess icon failed to defend his title by just half a point. In the process, Subrata ended Fahad's dominance which includes winning this title for as many as times in 2011, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

In the seventh and final round Friday, Subrata beat Dihan, Fahad defeated Amit Bikram Ray and Swarnavo beat Naim Haque. In the girls' category, Nowshin garnered seven points from as many rounds to retain her title. Jannatul Ferdous of EIA finished second with five points while her team mate Nusrat Jahan Alo ended third with the same number of points. Nowshin beat Ferdousi and Alo in the last round while Zarin drew with Waliza.
