The Saif Power Battery 38th National Junior (U-20) Chess Championship Open and Girls, sponsored by Saif Powertec Limited and organised by Bangladesh Chess Federation, began Saturday at the BCF hall-room of the second floor of the National Sports Council old building.
In the boys’ event, 31 players won their first-round game, earning full points.
The first-round winners are reigning junior champion Fide Master Mohammad Fahad Rahman, sub junior champion Subrata Biswas, Anata Choudhury, Jabed al Azad, Nayem Haque, Akib Jawad, Yasir Ali Khan Evan, Sadnan Hasan Dihan, Abdullah al Raison, Abdullah al Muhit, Mortuza Mahathir Islam, Nafim al Karim, Mahin Ahmed Shuvo, Ahnaf Akib Pathan, Mortuza Muhtadi Islam, Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, Mohammad Sajedul Islam, Tahmidul Haque, Mohammad Habibul Basar Zihad, Irshad Rafim, Azharul Karim, Mohammad Anowar Hossain, Mehedi Hasan, Musfiq Islam Jihan and Mahfuzur Rahman Saif.
In the girls’ category, 17 players won their first-round games, garnering maximum points.
The first-round winners are defending junior girl champion Nowshin Anjum, Afrin Jahan Munia, Mosammat Jhorna Begum, Ahmed Walijah, Jannatul Ferdous, Kazi Zarin Tasnim, Sadia Afrin Samia, Musfika Zannat Sawri, Nusrat Jahan Alo, Israt Jahan Diba, Samiha Chowdhury, Nusrat Jahan Moni, Jannatul Ferdousi, Maiesha Mahzabin Tisha, Wadifa Ahmed, Shanjida Sakib and Progma Podder.
Players from Dhaka and 26 districts are participating in the tournament. A total of 62 players are participating in the Open section while 38 players are taking part in the Girls’ section.
Both the competitions are being held in accordance with the Eight-round Swiss-League system.
The second-round games of both the sections begins Sunday at 3pm at the same venue.
