Mohammad Fahad Rahman emerged as the unbeaten champion in the opening round of the SGS 36th National Sub-Junior (U-16) Chess Championship on Tuesday. It was Fahad’s fourth consecutive national sub-junior title, and fifth overall.
The country’s youngest Fide Master defeated Tahsin in the seventh and last round of the event at the chess federation hall-room to maintain 100% winning record. The boy from Pirojpur earned seven points to clinch the title.
Subrato Biswas of Mymensingh finished runners-up with six points while Mohammad Nayem Haque of Sirajganj was placed third with 5.5 points.
Meanwhile in the girls’ event, Nowshin Anjum of Narsingdi beat Moni in the final round to become unbeaten champion with 6.5 points. Jannatul Ferdous of Dhaka emerged runners-up with six points.
