Bangladesh youth gymnastic team returned home after taking part in their first ever international tournament abroad.
The four-member team finished 13th out of 21 countries in the 15th Junior Artistic Gymnastics Championship held in Jakarta, Indonesia from April 25-28.
Bangladesh team comprising Abu Saeed Rafi, Mohammad Shafiqul Alom, Shishir Ahmed and Sangkheong Khumi scored a total of 134.400 points to finish above eight countries in their debut appearance.
In the boys' vault event, Rafi was placed top (15th) among his compatriots while Shafiqul and Shishir finished 19th and 22nd respectively in the qualification round out of 69 gymnasts.
In the boys' individual all-round event, Rafi, Shafiqul, Shishir and Sangkheong finished 48th, 52nd, 54th and 55th respectively with 48.600, 44.650, 39.150 and 37.350 points accordingly.
Head of delegation and Bangladesh Gymnastic Federation general secretary Ahmedur Rahman Bablu told Dhaka Tribune, "Our gymnasts were almost similar to the others but what they lacked was finishing. Besides, their game temperament is low due to lack of competitions."
Bablu added, "It is not possible to perform better without continuous training. Even if we had provided them at least a year's training, their results would have been much better."
