Update : 27 Mar 2018, 12:41 AM
Bangladesh became the first team to reach Queensland, ahead of the 2018 Commonwealth Games, scheduled to be held from April 4-15. A total of 71 countries will take part in the Games, hosted by Australia for the fifth time, in 19 disciplines, including 275 events. Bangladesh however, will participate in only six disciplines - shooting, swimming, boxing, weightlifting, wrestling and athletics.Prior to their departure Down Under, Bangladesh's chef de mission Nazimuddin Chowdhury said, "The shooters have been training for a long time now under the vision of two foreign coaches. Our shooters have tasted success in the international arena. They will also have the opportunity to win medals this time around. We can certainly have hope." Bangladesh Olympic Association's secretary general Syed Shahed Reza said, "We are sending our best athletes to the Games. Their experience will come in handy in the future Games." The speakers in the press conference Sunday also said their best hope of claiming a medal lies in the shooting discipline.
