Marking the international women's day, Everest Academy and Imago Sports Management Limited organised the marathon where around 300 women, above the age of 16, took part.
The event, 90 minutes long, started at 8am and continued till 10am. A total of five winners received medals, certificates and cash rewards while the top 50 finishers got medals and certificates.
The rest of the participants, who covered the 90-minute marathon, also received honorary certificates from the organisers.
Celebrities, actresses, athletes, women cricketers and footballers, foreigners, professionals and female students from universities, colleges and schools participated in the event.
AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the competition while Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu handed over prizes to the winners.
Mousumi Akter, who became the first runners-up, took an hour and three minutes to cover the 10km track. The first prize winner, a Masters student of Government Titumir College, took 53 minutes and duly expressed excitement after her victory.
Bangladesh Athletic Federation, Bangladesh Police, Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defense, Dhaka South City Corporation and Dhaka North City Corporation provided necessary support to hold the event.
The marathon started from Hatir Jheel near the FDC intersection and ended at the same point after parading through the city’s Tejgaon-Kunipara-Aarong Point-Notun Rasta-Tejgaon Link Road-Mohakhali Bus Stand (touch and back)-Tejgaon Link Road-Notun Rasta-Police Plaza-Concord-Merul-Rampura TV Centre-Mohanagar-Modhubagh-Moghbazar Main Road (touch and back) areas.
