Dhaka Division lifted the title for the first time in seven years with their last success coming in the 2013-14 edition

Dhaka Division emerged as the champions of the National Cricket League 2021 defeating Khulna Division on the final day of the tournament to clinch their sixth NCL title.

Dhaka registered a 179-run win against the holders at BKSP Ground 3 to lift the title for the first time in seven years with their last success coming in the 2013-14 edition.

In Tier 2, Chittagong Division finished as the champions and got promoted to Tier 1.

The port city outfit drew their last game of the competition with Dhaka Metropolis and with two wins, two defeats and two draws, Chittagong finished with 31.6 points to end top of Tier 2.

Going into the final day, Dhaka needed to dismiss Khulna.

Left-arm spinner Taibur Rahman recorded career best bowling and helped Dhaka restrict Khulna to 199 defending 379.

The defeat saw seven-time NCL winners Khulna get demoted to Tier 2 after just one win in six matches this season.

Batting all-rounder Taibur showed his effectiveness with the ball picking up five wickets giving away just 40 runs in the game, and surpassing his previous best, four wickets for 31 runs, in the format.

All-rounder Shuvagato Hom however, finished as the player of the match.

The off-spinner registered his career best in the first innings with seven wickets conceding 48 runs and bagging three more wickets in the second innings.

With the bat, Shuvagata scored 21 and 33 in the two innings.

With the game resuming on day four, Khulna needed 372 for victory and avoid demotion to Tier 2 while Dhaka required 10 wickets to finish as the champions.

Dhaka removed the first Khulna wicket in the third over of the day as pacer Sumon Khan removed Imrul Kayes.

Amit Majumder and Robiul Islam grafted to recover from the early loss but the partnership ended after 30 runs.

Khulna fell into deeper trouble losing three wickets in the next three overs.

Taibur first took the wicket of Amit, then Soumya Sarkar followed by Robiul.

Mohammad Mithun started briskly hitting a first ball six off Shuvagata but then got trapped in front by Taibur.

Taibur notched his fifth wicket, of Ziaur Rahman, and then induced Al Amin Hossain for a stumping to put the nail on the Khulna innings and lead Dhaka to victory.

The only 50-run partnership of the innings came from Imranuzzaman and Mrittunjoy Chowdhury.

Left-arm spinner Nazmul Islam Apu broke the partnership on 61 runs, dismissing Imran on 32.

In the next over Shuvagata removed Mrittunjoy on 26.
